For over 75 years, the United Nations has played a pivotal role in confronting worldwide challenges and paving the way for a more hopeful, collaborative future. Visitors are invited to immerse themselves in the organization's profound legacy, applaud its numerous successes, and contribute to a vision driven by collective action and transformative advancements.

Founding Vision: Pioneering Peace and Global Harmony

The United Nations was founded in 1945, immediately following the calamities of World War II, with a mission born from a universal resolve to forestall future global conflicts and enhance international cooperation. It began with 51 member countries committed to preserving global peace, fostering amicable relations among nations, advancing social progress, higher living standards, and human rights. The UN has consistently been a symbol of perseverance, diligently working to stave off conflicts, facilitate recovery after conflicts, and uphold core values of human dignity, equality, and justice. Through the years, it has extended its focus to include critical issues like poverty reduction, environmental sustainability, and advancing gender equality.

Core Mission

The GYEL is a significant initiative that functions within the diverse framework of the United Nations, involving a range of stakeholders from intergovernmental organizations to NGOs and groups with ECOSOC special consultative status. Over the past decade, GYEL has dedicated itself to fostering leadership and excellence among the world’s youth, preparing them with strategic and insightful initiatives to tackle the complex dynamics of our interconnected globe.

Empowering Future Leaders

The UN is dedicated to cultivating an environment where youth are not merely passive recipients of change but are empowered as key agents and leaders in crafting a sustainable future. By actively involving young people in health, education, environmental conservation, human rights, and innovation, the UN is nurturing a new generation poised to lead with justice, sustainability, and prosperity at the helm.

Global Collaborations for a Thriving World

Central to the UN’s mission is its extensive array of specialized agencies, funds, and programs strategically addressing various global challenges, including health, education, environmental conservation, and human rights. These endeavors are bolstered by robust partnerships with governments, civic groups, the business community, and, most notably, the youth, ensuring a rich pool of knowledge and resources to confront complex global issues effectively.

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Mobilizing for Global Good

Adopted by all 193 UN member states in 2015, the Sustainable Development Goals provide a comprehensive action plan to address urgent global challenges by 2030. These 17 goals are designed to create a sustainable and inclusive future for all, spanning issues from eliminating poverty and hunger to promoting clean energy and tackling climate change. Each goal interlinks, emphasizing the need for a unified approach that balances social equity, economic growth, and environmental sustainability. The SDGs act as a call to action, rallying governments, civil society, businesses, and individuals to forge partnerships and pursue a collective mission to protect the planet and ensure peace and prosperity for all.
